CIRCUMCISION: What is it?

Why is circumcision performed?

01

Circumcision for health reasons:

TREATMENT OF PHIMOSIS:

Phimosis occurs when the foreskin is tighter than normal, preventing the glans from being completely uncovered. As a consequence, the patient suffers pain and irritation, especially during sexual activity. Thanks to circumcision, this problem is remedied by cutting the unneeded skin.

TREATMENT OF PARAPHIMOSIS:

Paraphimosis occurs when the foreskin retracts and is unable to return to its original position, producing a swelling in the glans. To ensure that this area is not affected, removal of the foreskin is necessary.

TREATMENT OF BALANITIS:

Balanitis is an infection of the glans that causes irritation and pain. Circumcision prevents the infection increasing or extending to the rest of the genital area.

02

Circumcision for preventive reasons:

Improves reproductive health.

Reduces the risk of contracting STDs.

Reduces the risk of urinary tract infection.

Reduces the incidence of penile cancer.

03

Circumcision for religious or aesthetic reasons.
