What is the Xiaflex?
Xiaflex is the trade name of Clorstridium Histolyticum Collagenase (in the USA; in Europe, the trade name is Xiapex), a natural enzyme involved in the processes of tissue repair.
Xiaflex is the first effective medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of Peyronie’s Disease.
It is an effective treatment for moderate or serious cases of Peyronie’s Disease.
What are the risks of Xiaflex?
These risks include the appearance of bruises, swelling of the penis, pain in the penis and other less common side effects.
One important and serious side effect observed in less than 1% of men treated with Xiaflex is rupture of the tunica albuginea. This is the main reason why the FDA has approved the treatment with Xiaflex with the requirement to be carefully managed by an expert urologist, specialised in its treatment.
What are the results?
Studies involving over 500 patients have shown an average of 34% improvement in the curvature of the penis (or a reduction of 17 degrees from the curvature baseline).
60% of patients treated with Xiaflex experienced an improvement in comparison with the 30% who received a placebo.
