What is the Rezum system?

The Rezum system is a new and effective technique for treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) based on the energy of water vapour. This minimally invasive treatment achieves excellent results without affecting the sexual function of patients and allows them to abandon medication, in most cases.

QUICK PROCEDURE

It is a quick procedure, in which the intervention lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE

Thanks to this water vapor injection system, the intervention is much less invasive than with other techniques.

WITHOUT GENERAL ANAESTHESIA

No need for general anaesthesia, performed under local sedation or anaesthesia.

WITHOUT HOSPITALIZATION

In this outpatient procedure, hospitalisation is not necessary. It can be done in consultation or in the operating room.

QUICK RECOVERY

After the intervention, the recovery is quick and the patient can return to his normal life in little more than 1 hour and without hardly any discomfort.

SEXUAL AND EJACULATORY FUNCTION

With this system the male sexual function, including the ejaculation, is completely preserved.

How does the Rezum System work?

The Rezum system injects water vapour, obtained through radiofrequency, in the area of the prostate gland. This water vapour generates thermal energy that eliminates the excess prostatic tissue responsible for obstructing the flow of urine.

By unblocking urine, the symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia are reduced:

Frequent nocturnal urinations

Decreased voiding stream

Incontinence and urgency to urinate

Feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder

Intermittent, weak and slow micturition

Being trained as one of the fellows of the Andrology and Reconstructive surgery unit at Lyx Institute of Urology was truly an incredible experience!

Coming from the Philippines, where no formal training in andrology and sexual medicine is available, being selected as one of the fellows was a significant milestone in my professional journey.

During my fellowship, I was deeply immersed in various aspects of andrology and sexual medicine. I gained valuable exposure to the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with specialists such as radiologists specializing in andrology, nurse specialists for low-intensity shockwave therapy, and the world-class surgeons performing prosthetic and reconstructive urology. Apart from the cutting-edge procedures they performed, I was also impressed by the exceptional patient care provided by the nursing team, whose dedication to patient comfort and recovery stood out.

I am immensely grateful to the Lyx Institute for this learning opportunity. Despite cultural differences and language barriers, the team was warm, welcoming, respectful, and eager to share their expertise. I look forward to staying connected and exploring future collaborations, with the hope of bringing the knowledge and skills I gained back to the Philippines to benefit Filipino patients and contribute to the development of andrology and sexual medicine in my home country.
