Hypospadias

Hypospadias is a birth defect in boys by which the opening of the urethra is not at the tip of the penis, but located at the bottom of the glans or the trunk, or even in the area that connects the scrotum and penis.

There are different degrees of severity of hypospadias; milder cases are those in which the opening is closer to the glans and the more serious ones, those in which is located near the base of the penis.

In our Urology Centre in Madrid, we perform treatments to put an end to the problem of hypospadias. If you need surgery, the most common is when the child is between 3 and 18 months of age. Several interventions may be necessary.

Our urologists will place the opening of the urethra in its proper place and repair the skin surrounding the birth opening. You should not circumcise children with hypospadias, it is likely that the doctor may need the foreskin to repair this area.
